The views along this hike are amazing with a great Hong Kong skyline on one side and the reservoir on the other. However, make sure you pick a clear day as we couldn't see much when we went the first time (see below). Also, the reservoir tends to be empty during the dry season, which is when we went, so summers might be a better time to go.
Pre-Hike
Since this hike was relatively longer, we decided to pack ourselves lunch. A quinoa salad, some grapes and tangerines!
How to get there:
Hiking Directions:
Take the steps from the gas station and walk up Tai Tam Reservoir Road, towards Hong Kong Parkview. Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park will be on your right. This walk up should take about 10 minutes.
The trail will be in sight on your left, marked "Wilson Trail, Hong Kong Trail". There are several hiking trails up this road, so be sure to enter the correct one!
The hike is very straight forward. First, follow the signs towards Jardine's Lookout, then to Mount Butler, and finally to Tai Fung Au. At the end, when you reach an open pavilion (there is a restroom here) follow the signs towards Quarry Bay.
Once you descend the hill, turn left to go towards Quarry Bay MTR.
